Kevil Family Reunion
August 3-6, 2006

The upcoming Kevil Family Reunion will be held at Lake Barkley State Resort Park west of Cadiz, Kentucky on August 3-6, 2006. Anyone that is a Kevil family member, related to a Kevil family member, or anyone interested in the Kevil genealogy and family history is invited to attend. Bring your children, grandchildren and relatives to meet other Kevil family members from all over the country.

We have reserved 27 standard rooms and three handicapped room for the nights of August 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th, 2006 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday). All 30 rooms are at the main lodge. After much negotiations with park officials, the room rates will be $85.95 for a double room on Thursday night plus $10.00 extra on both Friday and Saturday night. All rooms MUST be reserved by credit card two weeks in advance on or before Thursday, July 20, 2006. Call 1-800/325-1708 to make reservations, and tell them you are with the Kevil family reunion.

Lake Barkley State Resort Park is west of Cadiz, Kentucky, and centrally located for family members traveling from the east coast, Texas, Illinois, and elsewhere in the U.S. Cadiz is located on I-24 in western Kentucky about 40-minutes south of Princeton, and approximately 1 ½ hour drive north-west of Nashville, Tennessee. The park is secluded and in a heavily wooded area of western Kentucky where you can enjoy yourself and get away from all the stresses of everyday life. There are lots of recreational activities and there’s something for everyone in the family. The old Kevil Family Cemetery south of Princeton is about a 45-minute drive north of Lake Barkley. While you’re in the area, try visiting Opryland in Nashville and Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. If you plan on flying, take Southwest Air into the Nashville Airport and a rental car from the airport to Lake Barkley State Resort Park.

There will be an informal get acquainted dinner on Thursday night, and family sit-down dinners on both Friday and Saturday nights. I’m currently negotiating with the chef at Lake Barkley to use recipes from the Kevil Family Cookbook for dinner Saturday night. We will have a fishing tournament and a "scramble" best-ball golf tournament on Saturday. Awards will be given at the Saturday night dinner for the biggest fish or fish story and the best and worst golf scores. We will also have updated copies of the Kevil genealogy report available, names tags and commerative pins. Mark August 3-6, 2006 on your calendar, and save some vacation days in order to attend the Kevil Family Reunion. Learn about the Kevil family history, heritage and genealogy, and enjoy yourself with other Kevil family members from across the country. For more information, please feel free to contact Tom Kevil at (865) 693-9961, or send an e-mail an e-mail to TKevil@Knology.net. See ya at Lake Barkley State Resort Park!

There will be Goodie bags for the kids and games are planned throughout the day. A quilt made by Joyce T.Shelton will be donated and raffled off, as well as a door prize. It will be an "all you can eat" affair, consisting of country cooking. You are asked to bring the following: 2- 2 liters bottles of your favorite soft drinks, a small quantity of bottled water, the gift for the White Elephant Sale, and enough lawn chairs for your family's comfort. Insofar as food, you are asked to bring, "as if you were planning a meal for your family to go picnicing". (If you bring desserts, please have them cut beforehand so that they are ready for serving. This is a potluck type of event, therefore it is suggested that insofar as quantity, please bring enough to cover at least your family. Be sure that you label all dishes and utensils...

In addition, there will be a dislay set up with family history, memorabilia, and pertinent geneaological information for everyones enjoyment.

The evening will end with a Shelton-McSurley Talent Show where you will enjoy the likes of George Jones, Minnie Pearl, Elvis, Dolly Parton, The Judds, The Soggy Bottom Boys, Loretta Lynn, and many, many more.... This has probably always been the most anticipated part of the day!!! Everyone really enjoys this.. If you are interested in participating, contact us at the address below.
