Clara Rhoades Resident of City Since 1925 Dies... Ponca City News. July 22, 1975... Longtime area resident and wife of the Rev. Frank Rhoades, Mrs. Clara Rhoades died Monday afternoon at her home, 529 North Ninth after a long illness. Born in Caldwell, Kan, Aug 5, 1900, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Collins, she moved with her family to Ringwood where she completed her education and taught school. In 1925 she was married to Frank Rhoades in Ponca City and the couple had resided here since that time. He is the retired minister of Bethel Tabernacle Church and Mrs. Rhoades assisted him in his ministry. On May 30, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Survivors included her husband on the home; 3 daughters, Mrs. Harry L. (Norma) Johnson, 3101 Kingston, Mrs. Harvey (Pat) Fix, east of city and Miss Geraldine Rhoades, Houston; 3 sisters. Mrs. Paul Irwin, 920 North Pine, Mrs. W. F. Gossen and Mrs. Alma Burke, both of Portland, Ore; 3 brothers, Carl Collins. Brownsville, Tex, Wibler Collins, Sulphur, La., and George Collins; Long Beach, Calif and 6 granddaughters and 2 great-grandsons. Mrs. Rhoades was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother. The service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Ted Rankin, Tulsa, officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of E.M. Trout and Sons Funeral Home. |
