Curfman
Francis Hazel Curfman, Ponca City resident and formerly of Newkirk, died
Monday afternoon, May 31, 1999 in Tender Heart Care Center, Ponca City.
She was 81.
The daughter of Jesse Franklin and Reba (Showalter) Simmons, she was born
March 14, 1918 at Greensburg, Kansas. One of 10 children, she and her
family lived in several areas of Kansas and Oklahoma where her father
worked on ranches and in oil fields. She received her education in South
Haven, Kansas. After leaving school she worked as a cook at the Rock Cliff
Ranch near Ponca City.
On June 4, 1939 she and Paul William Curfman were married at Jefferson,
Oklahoma. They made their home on a farm southwest of Braman until 1947
when they moved to a farm east of Newkirk. Mr. Curfman died July 4, 1967.
In 1983 she moved to Ponca City where she has since resided.
She was a member of the Newkirk First United Methodist Church, the Prime
Timers, and the Women's International Bowling Congress. In addition to
traveling and bowling, she enjoyed flowers and crocheting.
She is survived by on son and his wife, Donnie and Lynn Curfman of Ponca
City; two daughters and their husbands, Pauline and Bill Coats of Shidler,
and Janit and Joe Blakey of Ponca City; two brothers, Bob Simmons of Winfield
and Vernie Simmons of Wellington; two sisters, Freda Fry of Liberal, Kansas
and Darlene Hiltzman of Oxford, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, Kellie Hudson
and Cindie Hoy, both of Ponca City, Joni Short of Ada, Carla Wilson of
Hamilton, Illinois, Justin Jenkins, Joby Blakey and Mike Curfman, all
of Ponca City, Susie Hoyl of Sulphur, Tracey Curfman and Kristi Hunter,
both of Ponca City, Lezlee Locke of Hardy and William Don Curfman of Ponca
City; and 24 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Paul, she was preceded in death by her parents,
two brothers, Leonard Simmons and Floyd Rader and three sisters, Thelma
Biddle, Garna Rich and Lucille Tohlman.
The funeral has been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 3 in the
Newkirk Christ's Church with the Rev. J. Craig Ortwein officiating. Burial
is to follow in Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral
Service.
Those serving as casket bearers will be Marion Simmons, Max Simmons, Gary
Simmons, Bob Biddle, Art Biddle, and Dick Biddle. Grandsons will be honorary
bearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
